There is no case-evaluation form on this site and no phone number to capture — because we are not trying to convert you into anybody’s client.

Why this site exists
A mesothelioma diagnosis arrives with a stack of paperwork attached. Somewhere in that stack is a VA system that is, on paper, generous to veterans exposed to asbestos in service — and, in practice, written in a dialect almost nobody speaks. What is the difference between a Supplemental Claim and a Higher-Level Review? How long do you actually have after a decision letter? Can a representative charge a fee, and how much, and when? What happens to compensation if there is also a workers’ compensation settlement, or a bankruptcy, or a special needs trust for a disabled child?
Those answers exist, mostly in Title 38 and on VA.gov, but they are scattered across dozens of pages and written for people who already know the vocabulary. Meanwhile, much of what ranks highest for these searches is marketing: law-firm lead pages designed to collect a phone number, dressed as guidance. Families in the middle of a serious illness deserve better than a funnel.
So we built the plain-English version. We sell nothing, capture no leads, and have no stake in what you decide. If reading a guide here means you handle a Higher-Level Review yourself, or means you call a VSO, or means you hire an accredited attorney, we earn exactly the same amount either way: nothing.

How we work
Every article is sourced primarily from official material — VA.gov, benefits.va.gov, the eCFR, cancer.gov, cdc.gov, ssa.gov — and carries a named author byline with a reviewed and updated date. We never cite law-firm marketing pages as authority, never predict what a claim is worth, and never promise an outcome, because no honest writer can. Our team
The site is written by a small group of independent benefits writers and researchers who specialize in making procedural rules readable. They are not attorneys and do not claim to be. You can read about each of them, and what they focus on, on our Authors page.
